Urge U.S. Congress to Support Quake Victims’s Right to See the Dalai Lama

letter writingFollowing the devastating earthquake that struck Tibet on April 14th, the Dalai Lama has expressed his desire to visit the quake zone to offer prayers and help alleviate the suffering of his people. Read more.

Just days ago, a heartfelt letter from Tibetans in Kyegundo was sent to China’s leaders requesting the Dalai Lama be allowed to visit the area. Read the translated letter.

TAKE ACTION: Write to your Congressional Representatives and ask that they urge the U.S. government to support the Dalai Lama’s desire to visit quake zone.

TIBET: EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUNDRAISER

TAW is hosting a special fundraiser event for the 4/14 Tibet’s Earthquake Victims. FinalPoster_1According to kusho Migmar la, a local resident who has lost relatives in Jyekundo (epicenter of the 6.9 earthquake), “there’s still great need for help in local level, many people are unable to get basic needs, there are many injured Tibetans who are unable to support themselves”. Under such dire circumstances, we urge all Tibetan community members and friends of Tibet to join us in solidarity around the world to show our support for the earthquake victims. 

Program includes: Special Dinner, Silent Auction, Tambola Game, Kids activities, etc… more details of the program will follow soon.

  • Where: Greenwood Senior Center 525 N 85th St, Seattle, WA 98103
  • When: June 12th, 2010
  • Time: 1-3pm@Ingrahm High School (Seattle- Portland Friendship Soccer match
  • Time: 5pm-11pm at Greenwood Senior Center
  • Cost: $10 per person (6 and under free - $25 max. per family)

U.S. House passes resolution on Yushu Earthquake; calls for Tibetans to be included in reconstruction efforts

On May 20, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution regarding the April 14 earthquake in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, China (Tibetan region of Kham).  The resolution, which encouraged the Chinese government to include Tibetans in reconstruction, characterizes the area as a cradle of Tibetan culture.
