<p><span class="flash_source"><font size="4">TIBETAN DEMOCRACY DAY: </font>The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile&#8217; building was completed in t</span><span class="flash_source">he early </span><a href="http://www.washingtontibet.org/TAW/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/100902112403lx.jpg" title="HHDL_Democracy Day"><img src="http://www.washingtontibet.org/TAW/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/100902112403lx.jpg" alt="HHDL_Democracy Day" align="right" height="169" width="225" /></a><span class="flash_source">1980s. It is a modest structure at the centre of a horseshoe-shaped cluster of building housing the various departments of the Secretariat of the Government-in-exile. There is nothing strikingly Tibetan about the architecture of the Parliament building. The 46 Deputies and eight Kalons sit in two U-shaped rows in a square hall while the officials, journalists and visitors are seated behind them. On a raised platform behind the Chairman&#8217;s desk is a desk reserved for the </span><span class="flash_source">Dalai Lama when he addresses the Parliament. An enlarged photograph of the Dalai Lama on the wall behind and an elaborate thangka are the only symbols of Tibet, together with the fact that the proceedings are conducted in Tibetans.  <a href="http://www.washingtontibet.org/TAW/?p=350#more-350" class="more-link">(more&#8230;)</a></p>

Once again it&#8217;s time for us to show our unity and solidarity during this challenging and devastating time for our brethren in Tibet especially in Drugchu, northeastern Amdo. Due to devastating <a href="http://tibet.net/en/index.php#">mudslides</a> which hit Drugchu in northeastern Amdo Province of Tibet on early Sunday, at least 127 people have been confirmed dead and over 2,000 still missing.</p>
<p><strong>TAW will hold Mani and Monlam prayer service at Sakya monastery at 6pm to<br />
7pm TODAY, Monday 9th August.</strong> We request every community member and friends of Tibet to attend. Thank you, Jampa Jorkhang (TAW President)</p>

<p style="font-family: verdana,sans-serif" class="MsoNormal"><font size="2">The  Washington State Governor has appointed a Tibetan American and resident  of Seattle, Tashi Namgyal Khamshitsang, to the State Commission on Asian  Pacific American Affairs.<span>  </span></font></p>
<p style="font-family: verdana,sans-serif" class="MsoNormal"><font size="2">The State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs looks after the well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the Washington State by ensuring their access to participation in the fields of government, business, education, and other areas.<span>  </span>The Commission also serves as an Asian Advisory Council to the Governor.<span>  </span>The Commission was instituted by the 43<sup>rd </sup>State legislation passed on February  26, 1974. </font></p>
