Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was recognized at age six by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as one of Tibet’s most important religious leaders. Determined to control religion in Tibet, the Chinese authorities kidnapped this young boy and his family on May 17, 1995 just days after he was recognised as the 11th Panchen Lama.

Despite repeated appeals to gain access to him, no international agency or human rights organization has been granted contact with the young Panchen Lama or his family. To date, their well-being and whereabouts remain unconfirmed.

We tried to present you just a brief overview of the important issues that took place at the just concluded Chithue Session. Please visit ww.chithu.org in Tibetan & www.tibetanparliament.org in English for more details.

1. We are back home after attending the 3rd Session of the 15th Tibetan Parliament in Exile from March 14 to 24, 2012. The first day of Session was specifically devoted to the current situation in Tibet. DALAI LAMA TRUST GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Dalai Lama Trust in New York is pleased to announce its second round of graduate scholarship grants for the academic year 2012-2013. Ten exceptional candidates of the Tibetan descent will be selected to receive scholarship awards of up to US$10,000.00.Past awardees of the program are required to reapply this year.

The purpose of the scholarship program is to further the human capital development of the Tibetan people by supporting the pursuit of excellence among Tibetan students in the graduate field of their choice.

In order to apply, applicants must be enrolled fulltime in or already accepted to a graduate degree, post graduate and Phd. program in a university in Europe, Australia and North America and must demonstrate proof of Tibetan Heritage.

The complete application form along with all supporting documents must be reached by mail or emailed (in PDF) on or before May 31, 2012 to the Dalai Lama Trust. Receipt of application will be acknowledged by email. Selected applicants will be contacted for a phone interview. Awards will be announced by July 05, 2012

As we continue to hear the heart breaking news of Tibetans burning themselves for the worlds attention. One cannot help but to feel pain and sorrow of the situation in Tibet. No other in Tibetan history have we witness such desperate viral acts of self-immolations in the name of freedom and for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama back to Tibet. It is an extremely critical time in our history now, more than ever a time for us all to unite and show solidarity to our breathens. Please do join us for once a month prayer service to all the recent pawos and pamos of Tibet. Light refreshments will be served after each services, any donations will be greatly appreciated. Prerequisite: Refuge. Introduction, explanation, puja, and empowerment (wang) of the Kunrig (Sarvavid-Vairocana) practice. Kunrig is the main deity in the Elimination of Bad Rebirths. Participants will learn about the traditional 49 days memorial and spiritual practices that lamas can perform near the time of death (sur). This empowerment is to help prepare oneself for the time of death. Receiving this empowerment will be of great benefit to oneself and all sentient beings. Message from TAW President:

Situation in our Fatherland, Tibet, is sad. Sad that so many innocent lives are lost but we are proud of our brothers and sisters who have made ultimate sacrifice by self-immolation and others who are able to stand up and face the barrel of Chinese gun without flinching. We, Tibetans living in free world, cannot remain silent spectator and it would be shame to do so while our fellow Tibetans are burning in Tibet. Tibet is not yet free so being part of Free Tibet is not entitlement by just being Tibetan but we have to earn it. We have to earn it by participating in the freedom struggle. It might cost you in ways of lost wage for the day if you are out of vacation time or it might affect your reputation as best employee but if you yearn for free Tibet and earn your place there, it should be small sacrifice you are willing to make.

It should be just the announcement of venue and time for everyone to show up but it has become habit of needing repeated request to stoke the fire of patriotism therefore once again I would like to request all Tibetans and supporters to participate in “March for Tibet” rally organized by TAW & RTYC on Losar day, February 22nd.

As our brothers & sisters in Tibet fight against Chinese occupation, it is our responsibility to galvanize international support for Tibet’s struggle. Every small effort that we do will not only bring awareness on issue of Tibet but will also send strong message of solidarity with our brethren in Tibet and give them moral support.

February 22 is not only our Losar day but also falls on Lhakar so I want to request everyone to wear traditional dress.

Global Solidarity: Vigil for Tibet on Feb 8th!

In his first official statement on the recent killings of Tibetans in Tibet, Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay urged Tibetans and Tibet supporters all over the world to take part in a global vigil on Wednesday, February 8.

“To demonstrate our solidarity with Tibetans in Tibet, I urge Tibetans and our friends around the world, to participate in a worldwide vigil on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Let’s send a loud and clear message to the Chinese government that violence and killing of innocent Tibetans is unacceptable!”
